Supplements & Longevity

The Right Supplement for the Right Reason.

The supplement industry offers thousands of products promising better energy, improved health, and longer life. But not all supplements are created equal, and more is not necessarily better.

At Synaptic Sports & Longevity, we believe supplements should be selected with the same careful consideration as other medical treatments: based on science, safety, effectiveness, and quality.

Unlike prescription medications, dietary supplements generally do not require FDA approval before being sold. As a result, the actual ingredients, potency, and purity of products can vary considerably between manufacturers.

Whenever possible, we prioritize products with independent testing, published quality verification, or pharmaceutical-grade manufacturing standards.

The Synaptic 4-Step Supplement Evaluation

Before recommending a supplement, we evaluate it using four essential criteria.

1. Medical Evidence — Does It Work?

Is there credible scientific research supporting its use? We look beyond marketing claims to determine whether a supplement has demonstrated meaningful benefits for the intended purpose.

2. Safety — Is It Safe?

Even natural substances can cause side effects or interact with medications. We consider the patient’s medical history, potential risks, and long-term safety.

3. Bioavailability and Dosing — Does Your Body Absorb It?

A supplement is only useful if an appropriate amount reaches the body in a form it can use. Some compounds have poor oral absorption, are rapidly broken-down during digestion, or are extensively metabolized before reaching the bloodstream. We evaluate the formulation, absorption, and appropriate dose rather than relying solely on the amount listed on the label.

4. Manufacturing Quality — Can We Trust What’s Inside?

We look for reputable manufacturers that provide independent testing, ingredient verification, and appropriate quality controls. A product labeled with documented manufacturing standards and testing are what matter.

At Synaptic, a supplement must satisfy all four criteria before it becomes part of our recommended treatment strategy.

Why Absorption Matters

Some popular supplements have significant challenges with oral absorption or bioavailability.

  • NMN, NAC, and DHEA: These compounds can be absorbed orally, although their clinical benefits, appropriate uses, and safety considerations differ. DHEA is a hormone precursor and requires particular care.
  • Glutathione: Conventional oral formulations have low bioavailability, and researchers continue to study different methods of delivery.
  • Berberine: Has low oral bioavailability, although clinical studies have demonstrated metabolic effects with certain preparations.
  • Curcumin: Has poor absorption in its conventional form, prompting the development of specialized formulations intended to improve delivery.

Liposomal supplements are often marketed as a solution to poor absorption. Liposomes are tiny fat-based structures designed to carry other compounds. Because the digestive system breaks down and processes fats, not every liposomal product maintains its original structure or improves absorption.

Some formulations may enhance delivery, but the word “liposomal” alone does not establish that a supplement is better absorbed or more effective. We look for product-specific evidence rather than marketing claims.

The Synaptic Way: Supplements with a Purpose

At Synaptic, supplements are not a substitute for good nutrition, exercise, appropriate medical care, or proven treatments.  The Synaptic Way is to use supplements selectively, choosing products that have a clear purpose and fit into a patient’s overall health strategy.

Through the Longevity Code™, we evaluate nutritional needs, medical conditions, laboratory findings, and individual health goals before recommending supplementation.  Our philosophy is simple: fewer supplements, selected intelligently, are often better than taking dozens without a clear reason.
