Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections

Harnessing Your Body’s Natural Healing Potential

Your body has a remarkable ability to heal itself. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses a concentrated portion of your own blood to support the natural healing response. At Synaptic Sports & Longevity, we use ultrasound-guided PRP injections for selected joint and tendon problems, as part of a personalized recovery plan.

What Is PRP Therapy?

Platelets are tiny parts of your blood that help with clotting and carry substances involved in healing. PRP is made by concentrating platelets from a small blood sample, then injecting the prepared plasma into the injured area. Unlike corticosteroids, which mainly reduce inflammation, PRP is intended to support the body’s repair response.

Why Is PRP Used?

Some tendon and joint problems are slow to improve. PRP may help reduce pain and improve function in certain conditions, especially when rest, rehabilitation, and other treatments have not provided enough relief. It is not a guaranteed way to regrow tissue, and results vary by injury.

When and Where Is PRP Appropriate?

PRP may be considered for selected cases of knee osteoarthritis, tennis elbow, and certain chronic tendon injuries. It is also sometimes used for shoulder, Achilles tendon, and other soft-tissue problems, although evidence is less consistent for some of these uses. Complete tears and advanced joint damage may require other care.

Who Is a Candidate?

Athletes, active adults, and people with persistent joint or tendon pain may be candidates. At Synaptic, we review your symptoms, examination, and imaging when needed to decide whether PRP is a reasonable option for your specific injury.

What to Expect: The PRP Procedure

Step 1: Blood Draw

We collect a small blood sample from your arm, much like a routine blood test.

Step 2: Centrifugation

Your blood is placed in a centrifuge, a machine that spins it quickly to separate its components. We collect the portion containing concentrated platelets and prepare it for injection.

Step 3: Ultrasound-Guided Injection

Our physician uses real-time ultrasound to see the affected area and guide the injection into the intended tissue or joint. The procedure is performed in our office, and the visit typically takes less than an hour. Temporary soreness afterward is common.

Recovery and Results

PRP does not usually provide immediate relief. When it helps, improvement may develop gradually over weeks to months. You may need to limit some activities briefly and follow a rehabilitation plan. Some patients need additional treatment, while others do not experience meaningful improvement.

The Synaptic Way: Better Together

At Synaptic, we believe the best recovery plan is more than a single injection. The Synaptic Way combines carefully selected treatments that work toward the same goal: less pain, better movement, and a return to the activities you enjoy.

Depending on your injury, we may combine PRP with shockwave therapy, which uses acoustic pulses to treat selected tendon problems, and with rehabilitation or chiropractic care to restore strength and movement. We may also consider supportive recovery devices, such as laser, red light, PEMF, or hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

Our focus is choosing treatments that make sense together—not simply adding more treatments.
